NuzPoke guide

How to use NuzPoke

This is the practical reference for managing a Nuzlocke day to day. It explains each area of NuzPoke and what the overlay does when the team changes.

Orientation

Configuration and My games

Configuration contains the active run, six team slots and search. From the summary, open Stream to design the overlay or Edit to change the run and trainer names.

My games lists access links remembered by this browser. You can manage, view, share or delete a run there.

Restore is available for 30 days after deletion

Delete blocks administration and hides the overlay. The card keeps the access link and shows the time remaining and a Restore button. You can restore the run for 30 days; then it is permanently deleted with its team. A .nzpk file cannot recover a permanently deleted run. Remove only clears this browser’s reference to a run that no longer exists.

Administration receives saved game changes live, including updates sent by NuzPoke Link. Opening the same game in another tab disconnects the previous one to prevent overwrites. Choose Carry on here to reclaim editing in your preferred tab, or Close this tab. If it does not close automatically, close it manually.

Find

Search by name and filter by game anatomy

Enter part of a species name to reduce results. To explore, combine filters:

Type 1 and type 2Find combinations or species with no second type.
RegionSeparate Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian and Paldean forms.
GenderShow species with or without visible gender differences.
Battle formFind species with temporary transformations or battle alternatives.

Select Clear to restore the full catalog. Results respect the active sprite style: a species that does not exist in that game cannot be added in that style.

Search thumbnails stay still to reduce loading work. Unavailable species appear grey and cannot be added in that style. Animated sprites do play in the team, variant picker and overlay.

Expanded type, region, gender and battle-form filters
Filters combine and always respect the active sprite style.
Choose

Understand species, variants and appearance

When you select a species, NuzPoke shows its available combinations. Depending on the Pokémon, you can change region, gender, form, battle form and color. The preview uses the same style selected for the run.

  • Normal/shiny: some classic games have no shiny sprites and disable the option.
  • Form: covers permanent looks such as styles, coats or patterns.
  • Battle form: represents Mega Evolutions or temporary states when cataloged.
  • Nickname: replaces the species name; leave it empty to keep the localized name.
If an option is missing

It is not available for that species in the selected sprite style. Switching to HOME may provide broader coverage.

Available options depend on the species and active style.
Maintain

Edit, order, evolve and remove

Each filled slot offers actions that match its state:

EditChange variant, color or nickname without removing the member.
DragReorder the team; the overlay animates the move.
EvolveShows valid destinations for that variant and keeps the nickname.
RemoveFrees the slot and plays the member’s exit.

When a species has several branches or special requirements, choose the actual result yourself. NuzPoke does not decide what happened in your game.

During an important battle

Avoid chaining several reorder operations. Make them during a break so motion supports the story instead of competing with it.

Evolve appears only when a destination has a sprite in the active style, in the requested color or normal color. The picker applies the same rule to each branch. Aipom therefore cannot offer Ambipom in Gold, and an exclusive fan-game evolution may be absent in HOME. Check the style if the button is missing.

Style

Change sprites with a safety check

Change the style from the Stream window. NuzPoke looks for a compatible version of every member in the new game and updates all previews.

If a species or form is absent from the selected roster, you will see which members would be removed. Nothing changes until you confirm. Cancel, change the variant or choose a broader style if you want to keep them.

StaticClassic sprites, Shuffle and static HOME; minimal movement.
Animated entranceCrystal, Emerald and several Nintendo DS games play an intro and then stop.
Continuous loopBlack/White, 3DS models and HOME stay animated.

Smogon Sprite Project is static. Añil and Z support looping animation and normal or shiny sprites depending on the variant. Exclusive fan-game species and forms do not automatically carry over to other styles.

Access

Share and recover without mixing up links

In My games → Share, copy the admin URL, download the .nzpk file with Save game, and keep access safe. The Add to NuzPoke Link button in the game summary opens access in the desktop app.

Load game accepts the full URL, admin identifier or file. The .nzpk preserves access to the same game on the server: it does not copy the team or restore an earlier state. Keep both the link and file private.

Añil and Z styles can include original species. NuzPoke Link matches official National Pokédex numbers: original species have no official number and are excluded from the catalog sent to Link. Variants of official species can be included under their species number; reading a particular game depends on its support in Link.

Before going live

Open one admin tab, confirm team and style, open OBS and make a test change.

Load run dialog using URL, ID or NZPK file
Recovery accepts the URL, ID or .nzpk file.
Edge cases

When a variant or style does not fit

Availability depends on species, region, gender, form, battle state, color and sprite style at the same time. Two Pokémon with the same name can therefore offer different options.

A species is missingClear filters and check that it exists in the active game or sprite family.
Shiny is missingFirst-generation styles do not include shiny sprites.
A form is missingSelect the correct region and gender; some forms only exist in HOME or later games.
Changing style removes membersRead the preview, cancel and correct variants before confirming.
Evolution does not matchEdit the variant manually when game, region or run conditions differ from the suggested destination.

NuzPoke validates available representations, not the rules of your challenge. The player still decides what counts as a valid catch, loss or evolution.
